Trey Walker

Trey Walker is the principal of Walker Chief Strategies, LLC, a South Carolina-based strategic advisory firm providing trusted counsel in government relations, public affairs, public policy, crisis communications, and executive leadership.

For more than thirty-five years, Trey has advised governors, Fortune 500 companies, trade associations, healthcare organizations, higher education institutions, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and political leaders as they navigate complex legislative, regulatory, and public affairs challenges.

In addition to leading Walker Chief Strategies, Trey serves as Executive Director of the South Carolina Alliance of Health Plans, representing South Carolina's commercial health plans and Medicaid managed care organizations that provide healthcare coverage and services to more than ninety percent of the state's residents.

Before establishing Walker Chief Strategies, Trey served for more than nine years as Chief of Staff to Governor Henry McMaster, making him the longest-serving chief of staff to a South Carolina governor in modern history. As the Governor's principal advisor, he directed the day-to-day operations of the Governor's Office while helping develop and execute the administration's legislative agenda, executive budget, and major policy initiatives.

Earlier in his career, Trey served as Deputy Chief of Staff to former Governor Nikki Haley and as Chief Executive Assistant during Governor McMaster's two terms as South Carolina Attorney General. His experience also includes serving as Senior Government Affairs Advisor for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and Director of Government Relations for the University of South Carolina, where he represented two of the state's most influential institutions before the General Assembly and executive agencies.

Trey's political experience spans both state and national campaigns. He served in national leadership roles in both U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaigns, led the South Carolina Republican Party as Executive Director during the historic election cycles of the 1990’s that produced the first Republican majorities in both chambers of the South Carolina General Assembly since Reconstruction. Many of the dozens of successful candidates he advised for federal, statewide, legislative, and local office over the years - remain in office to this day - including the current Speaker of the South Carolina House Murrell Smith.

Throughout his career, Trey has built a reputation for sound judgment, thoughtful leadership, and the ability to guide organizations through high-stakes public policy, governmental, and communications challenges. His experience inside government, combined with decades advising private and nonprofit organizations, provides clients with practical insight and strategic perspective rarely found in a single advisor.

Trey is a graduate of the University of South Carolina.
